Hello everyone,
Just a quick note to ask if people could pray for me.
I am applying tonight for a voluntary part-time office job, so if
you could pray that the outcome will be God's will, that would be appreciated.
Thanks! =)
God bless,
Rebecca.

A more in-depth convention blog. :)
As convention has come and passed, I decided I'd better not break the tradition of a bebo blog about it. :)
It was an excellent convention, and I find that it's excitement has not diminished one iota over the years!
On Monday morning, my Aunt and I (she was my sponsor for the week.) left at about 7:30, to arrive at 9am. We settled into our room, and started meeting other homeschoolers who had already arrived. Unfortunately, the only piano had been turned to the wall for some reason, so I had to wait for the new ones to practice on. I submitted my art, and went to get my uniform on, as the opening rally was approaching. After this, the pianos finally arrived, so there was a general rush in their direction. My piano solo was supposed to be on Monday, so I was glad to check out the piano. A few of us went and had lunch over the road at the milk bar. Finally, the events started! My first event was instrumental ensemble. We had a bother to begin with about tuning the instruments to the piano, it being slightly off! We played pretty well, though there was a bit of a hiccup at the end.
I went with Brooke to the table tennis room, as we both had a match coming up, mine being against Elise Dutra. I wasn't feeling too confidant about my chances! :) I played her, and it was an enjoyable match, despite her beating me.
We (Jess Mcgrath, Anna Kav, and Brooke Mollison) went to practice our quartet. It didn't go well in the practice, so that didn't help.... We performed it, and it actually went better than expected! I was quite pleased, and I think the others were too.
My next event was PACE bowl. Our best player, Luke Hipwell, got caught up at basketball, so we figured we were goners. However, I was surprised to find I knew some of the answers. I think I answered 3-4 questions. Luke came in about half way, but he was exhausted, so he had trouble answering. Then the other team got faster, and we got to about 20-40 in their favour. The last question could have made us equal to them, but due to irritating circumstances, we did not get the opportunity to answer it. Any way, we lost, 20-35.
I walked around for a while to try and recover, and then went down to do my piano solo. The music room were really behind, so both Moshe Jasper and I had our piano solos rescheduled for the next day.
It was then dinner time, and then the night rally. Jess Bull and Hudson Jasper got a CP (command performance) for their vocal duet. 'Twas really good! :)
Tuesday morning after breakfast Moshe, Hudson and David had their vocal solos, so I headed down tio the music room for that. They all did very well! :)
I then watched some instrumental events. I then watched the guys basket ball... and I can not remember what the outcome of that was. However, it was a good game, quite exciting.
Moshe and I had our dramatic dialogue scheduled for 10:26, but he had a fair few events to complete first, so it was postponed to 4 pm. I then had my piano solo, which went tolerably well. I made a few mistakes, and the piano was much harder to play than what I am accustomed to, but all in all, I did ok.
I unwound after that, and went to have lunch. Straight after lunch, we had girls basketball, which we won! :) We were quite pleased with that. I went back to the dinning room following that, and watched the chess and checkers. We then had our next basketball match, which was the semi-finals, against River City. They beat us, being very good shooters and fast.
I watched PACE bowl, which I think was won by ACHS. Then, we played off for third in basketball, and lost to Mt. Carmal (?).
Moshe and I had our dramatic dialogue now, which went very well! (thanks Moshe! :) You were very convincing! ;) )
I then played Harry Jasper in chess twice, and check mated him! :O I was quite surprised. Maybe I will enter chess next year. :)
By this time it was dinner time. I was concerned about the possibility of getting a command performance for my piano solo, but no one approached me during dinner, so I figured I was safe. However, after dinner I watched some of the guys playing around with a soccer ball on the oval, when three people, in close succession, came up to tell me that I had received a command performance! I nearly fell over backwards! I had never received a command performance for anything smaller that choir, and that was six years ago. Anyway, I went straight to the piano and frantically started practising and warming up. The performance went well, in fact, I think better that the actual performance. :) The Jaspers quartet also received a command performance, and it sounded great!
On Wednesday it was the athletics day down in Moe. My aunt, Mrs. B, Tianne B., Bethany Bull and I travelled down together. It was fairly pouring on the way down, but it cleared pretty well by the time the races started. It was fun to watch everyone doing so well! I didn't have any running events, so I took lots of photos. :D (and got wet, as the rain did come back after a while.)
On the way back, we stopped to get some things for Thursday night at the Woolworths. Tianne entertained myself and at times the adults with her intriguing antics. ;)
We had choir once we got back, and that went well. We watched the other choirs, and I think our closest competition came from either River City or Olivet. We had ensemble next, and that went ok, but there were a few bumps. I watched some tennis, and played Harry in chess again and..... won again! He was not well pleased. :) We had dinner after that, and headed off to night rally. Moshe and David had a command performance for their piano duet.
Thursday was the tambourine day, so at 7:30 we went to see Jess Davey to have our uniform and hair inspected our ensemble was on at 8:30, right after breakfast! We had a quick run through it before, which went well. We did the performance, and it had to be the best we'd done it! It looked impressive, even from my view point. :) They all did really well. I enjoyed to the tambourine. We watched the only other ensemble, and the quartets. The ACHS quartet did really well too! I was so proud of them. :)
I snuck off to do my poem, because I was not too keen of the idea of people watching. There were quite a few people in there anyway. It went ok, except for forgetting which verse came next at one point.
I then had spelling, which was a new experience for me, as I had not entered it before. I ended up getting 36/50 correct, which is better than I feared I would get. This was my final event, so I watched the PACE bowl final, (which ACHS won! YAY!!!! :D ) and the tennis final.
At dinner, I watched out for approaching SCEE staff in case I had been recommended for another command performance, but all was well. I was relieved. :)
After the night rally, we had our ACHS party! It was loud (naturlich), but very good. We played some interesting games, such as ninja and bunny. :) I got to bed around 11:50.
The next morning I had eaten breakfast and was casually chatting to friends, when Mr. Savage came up behind me. I wondered what rule I had broken! :L But I found out, it was 'not something I had done, but what I was about to do'. I had received my second command performance, this time for poetry! :O :) It went well, apart from some microphone trouble early on.
It was great to see how well everyone had done!
For my events I received:
Silver Apple: 3rd
Sketching: 4th
Posters: 3rd
Scenic Photography: 5th
Character Trait Photography: 2nd
Basketball: 4th
Dolls: 3rd
Piano Solo: 2nd
Instrumental Ensemble: 3rd
Tambourine Ensemble: 1st
Quartet: 2nd (thanks girls! :) )
Vocal Ensemble: 3rd
Choir: 1st
Dramatic Dialogue: 1st (thanks Moshe! :) )
Poetry Recitation: 1st
So, out of 20 events, I received 15 places and 12 ribbons. Not bad for little over 3 months of practice.
Other notable wins were: Moshe Jasper- 1st for Piano Solo. :D Rochelle- 1st for Illustrated story telling. Elise Dutra- 1st for Sketching. Hudson- 1st in chess. Moshe- 1st in checkers.
Bree- 2nd for 100m.
Everyone did extremely well. :)
Afterwards, we gathered our lunch and grouped around the piano for a bit, and also played an impromptu game of 'hands'. After our final goodbyes, we departed.
So, that was convention. It was as busy as I can remember any convention being, just as fun, and equally as challenging. The night messages were VERY good as usual, and challenged me to live for God 24 hours 7 days, and to plan as though I'll live for ever, but to live as if it's my last day.
I'm so glad God made it possible for me to go, and am very thankful that He helped me to both prepare and perform my events well.
And yes, God willing, I'll definitely be back next year! :)

Convention 09!
Well, I got back from the ACE student convention yesterday afternoon.
It was a really, really great week! It was nice to catch up with old friends and make new ones.
It was a very busy week too, and everyones schedules were pretty full.
I got there on Monday morning at about 9am. The competition started at 1pm after lunch, and our first event was the ACHS (Australian Christian Home Schooling) instrumental ensemble. That went pretty well, dispite a couple of hiccups. I played Elise Dutra (ACHS) in table tennis, which I lost, but I enjoyed playing her. We had some good rallies. We had our quartet, which was ok, and then there was PACE Bowl(like a schoolwork quiz with two teams of four people).
By the time that was finished it was approaching dinner time, and then night rally.
On Tuesday girls had basketball, the first game we played we won, and then lost the next two games when we played River City, who were very good shooters, and good at defence too, and then Mount Carmel (I think).
I had my piano solo at about 11 am, and later that afternoon Moshe and I had dramatic dialogue, which went well.
On Wednesday we had our track events down in Moe in the morning. It was raining when we got there, but the rain eased off and held off mostly until afterwards. The only race I remember the results of was Bree (ACHS) coming second in the u/14 100m dash. :)
We had both Choir and Ensemble that afternoon at 1:30 and 2:55, and they went well. Then there was more basketball for the guys, and some interesting chess and checker matches.
On Thursday, we had Tambourine Ensemble at 8:30 which went really well =D and then we watched the other tambourine events. I snuck off and did my poetry recitation early, and then spelling was on after that, which was a new experience for me as I'd never done it there before.
Thit was my last event, so I watched the final in tennis and vollyball afterwards and played some chess. After the rally that night, we had our ACHS 'party', which was fun. (and noisy at times. ;) )
Friday was the awards ceremony. It was great to see how everyone had done.
For my events I recieved:
Silver Apple- 3rd. Poster-3rd. Sketching-4th. Basketball-4th. Doll-3rd. Quartet-2nd.
Choir- 1st. Ensemble- 3rd. Piano Solo- 2nd. Instrumental Ensemble- 3rd.
Tambourine Ensemble 1st. Poetry Recitation- 1st. Dramatic Dialogue- 1st.
All together, I'm happy with my results, considering I really only had 3 months to prepare.
The Lord really helped me! I'm glad I went. It had been a time of fun, but also stretching and learning. I think I'll be going next year, but will start slowly preparing a LOT earlier, and that should be possible now.
I'll sign off for now with some photos from the week. =)
Instrumental Ensemble
Basketball.
Checkers.
A 'bigwig'. =)

Moshe's Piano Solo. (For which he got 1st)

Back Online!
The internet has finally sped up again, so I'm back! =)
Convention is now 10 days away, so preparation is in full swing. We had a choir practice on Wednesday, which is the last one until convention. Most events have come together nicely, but a few are still hanging in the balance.
Quite a few people have been asking me what I'll be doing at convention, so, to make it easier, I'll post it here. =)
Academic Category: Spelling, Silver Apple (Scripture Memory), and PACE Bowl. [That's sort of a school work quiz.]
Art Category: Poster, Sketching, and 3 Photographs
Athletic Category: Basketball, Table Tennis, and Netball Shoot.
Craft Category: Doll Making
Music Vocal Category: Quartet, Choir, and Ensemble.
Music Instrumental Category: Piano Solo, Instrumental Ensemble (I'm playing recorder), and Tambourine Ensemble.
Platform Category: Poetry Recitation, Dramatic Dialogue.
All together, 20 events.
Mum had a fall last month and has cracked one of her vertebrae, so she is in almost constant pain except when she has been given medication, and can not stand or walk. She has been assesed for a nursing home, and will be moved into a transitional home sometime soon while a nursing home is chosen. She also had another seizure last week, so she's pretty tired.
Jonathan has recovered from having quite sever food poisoning the other week.
He is enjoying the school holidays thouroughly. (naturlich =] )
I went to the Melbourne Show the other week with Becky and Joshua. It was a really good time, despite a downpour for about half an hour. We went on a couple of rides, and watched the wood chopping for a while. Oh, and went through the poultry. I must say, that is one of my favorit parts! The ducks are so adorable, and so are the bantam chickens! =D I love seeing the pure-bred chickens and roosters. I would love to have my own batch of pure Rhode Island Reds..... :)
On wednesday, Jessica came down to go to choir practice with me. After hearing about it for at least six years, she wanted to come and see it for herself. =) We had a really good talk on the way home and that night. The next day we went out to an opp shop and K-mart to buy shoes and clothes. 'twas good fun. :)
Anyway, I'll attempt to keep up with the blog now that I can. I may not blog much until after convetion though. : )
